  • Pressure: Full vacuum to 4 bar
  • Temperature: -20°C to 150°C
  • Materials: SS316, Hastelloy, Inconel, Titanium, etc.

The Agitated Nutsche Filter Dryer (ANFD) is a versatile equipment widely used in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and R&D industries for solid-liquid separation under vacuum or pressure. It combines the functions of filtration, washing, and drying in a single, closed system, ensuring safe, clean, and efficient processing. It is ideal for handling sensitive or hazardous materials particularly for processes that require strict containment or corrosive duties and can be designed to support CIP and cGMP operations for US-FDA manufacturing sites.

Unlike conventional filtration and drying methods, the agitated nutsche filter dryer provides superior control over product quality, higher yield, and enhanced safety due to its fully contained operation.

Available in capacities from 1 L to 100 L, our lab and pilot-scale ANFDs are widely used for R&D studies, process development, and small-batch as well as continuous production, offering a smooth pathway for scale-up to commercial manufacturing.

FAQs

The agitated nutsche filter dryer (ANFD) is designed to perform multiple steps within a single vessel, including slurry charging, filtration under vacuum or pressure, cake washing using the agitator, drying with a heated jacket and agitation for uniform heat transfer, and safe discharge of the dried product through the bottom outlet. While the ANFD is primarily operated in batch mode, it can also be configured for continuous or semi-continuous operationwhen connected in series with another unit—where the first ANFD handles slurry filtration and cake washing, and the second ANFD carries out final drying and discharge. This arrangement enables higher throughput, reduced downtime, and improved efficiency in the processing of APIs, fine chemicals, and agrochemicals.

Compared to traditional filtration equipment, ANFDs offer significant operational and safety advantages:

  • Combines filtration, washing, and drying in a single contained system
  • Closed operation ensures operator safety and product containment
  • Eliminates multiple material transfers, reducing contamination risk
  • Suitable for hazardous, toxic, sterile, and high-potency compounds
  • Enables efficient solvent recovery during cake washing and drying
  • Improves product yield and purity through controlled processing

This integration reduces equipment footprint, minimizes handling, and enhances overall process efficiency.

ANFDs are extensively used in industries where product purity, safety, and solvent recovery are critical:

Pharmaceuticals
  • Isolation and drying of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs)
  • Filtration and washing of drug intermediates
  • Handling toxic or highly potent compounds in contained systems
  • Sterile operations with CIP/SIP compliance
Fine & Specialty Chemicals
  • Separation and purification of high-value specialty chemicals
  • Processing of dyes, pigments, and intermediates
  • Handling sensitive or corrosive compounds
Agrochemicals
  • Filtration and drying of pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides
  • Safe containment of hazardous agrochemical formulations
Food & Nutraceuticals
  • Processing of plant extracts, natural colors, and herbal concentrates
  • Filtration and drying of nutraceutical powders and proteins
  • Applications requiring high purity and solvent-free recovery
Research & Pilot Plants
  • Small-batch process development and optimization
  • Scale-up validation prior to commercial manufacturing
  • Use in R&D centers, CROs, and CDMOs

ANFD systems are suitable for processing:

  • APIs and pharmaceutical intermediates
  • Fine chemicals, pigments, and dyes
  • Agrochemicals including pesticides and herbicides
  • Food and nutraceutical extracts requiring solvent recovery
  • Research and pilot-scale samples

They are particularly advantageous for toxic, hazardous, sensitive, or high-value materials that require controlled and contained processing.

ANFDs are available in:

  • SS316
  • Hastelloy
  • Glass-lined steel

Material selection depends on corrosion resistance requirements, solvent compatibility, and sterility considerations.

For pharmaceutical applications, systems can be equipped with:

  • CIP (Clean-in-Place)
  • SIP (Steam-in-Place)

This enables full compliance with GMP guidelines and sterile processing standards.

The Agitated Nutsche Filter Dryer (ANFD) is engineered as a fully contained system for solid–liquid separation, cake washing, and drying within a single vessel. It features a high-torque bidirectional agitator with vertical movement for efficient cake smoothing and drying, along with a vacuum- and pressure-rated mechanical seal for safe operation from -1 to 4 bar.

A fully jacketed vessel enables precise heating and cooling between -20°C and 150°C, supporting solvent recovery and controlled drying. The removable filter basket/disc (5–20 µm) ensures efficient filtration and easy cleaning, while standard nozzles for slurry inlet, CIP, nitrogen purging, venting, and sight glass allow integrated processing.

Available in SS316, Hastelloy, or glass-lined steel, with capacities from 1 L to 100 L and filtration areas up to 0.20 m², the system is designed for lab to pilot-scale applications with safe, contamination-free discharge of dried solids.
